After the success of last year’s competition, where Kara Rouse took the crown, we have once again celebrated UK truckers by teaming up with Transport Cafe, Truck Stop News and Transport Cafe to find the UK’s ‘Trucker of the Year’.
Throughout October we asked you to head to Facebook and Twitter to nominate the amazing truckers you know. And you certainly delivered! With well over 150 nominations we had some fantastic entries to choose from. Here’s our round up of some of the best.
There were also nominations for our 2015 Trucker of the Year Kara Rouse, who also spends her spare time organising events for charity.
Some of the nominations we received were truly inspiring and highlighted how much hard work, long hours and time away from family truckers face, but also how appreciated all their sacrifices and efforts are.
One of our weekly winners, John Henry, was nominated by his son Richard.
Richard made the comment: “This man has educated me in every aspect of road haulage since I was a young lad. Sadly my dad passed away a month ago at the age of 76 from a short illness. So this nomination is from a proud son who owes his dad so much.”
Another of our weekly winners was Craig Hall, nominated by his children Harley and Taylor.
Next we have John Clark, nominated by his son Christopher Clark
Also, we have Ian Joyce, nominated by his friend Ted Jones.
With so many great nominations, we couldn’t possibly fit them all in. If you would like to check out the other brilliant enteries from this year’s competition visit our ‘Trucker of the Year’ post on our facebook page.
As well as nominations people also shared pictures with us, which was fantastic as we got to put faces to names and understand just how much they loved their trucks.

With over 150 nominations throughout the month, we had a hard time choosing just 12 to be our weekly winners.
Congratulations to Rob Billman, Kate Louise, Rob Cartwright, Russell Oliver, Ian Pritchard, Dave Martin, Tom Tiernan, Sharon Thurgood, John Henry, Craig Hall, Howard Davies and Tracey Martin.
It was a tough decision but in the end we chose our winner. We decided on someone who is hard working both on the road and at home providing support to others in the industry – Russell Oliver is our 2016 ‘Trucker of the Year’.
Russell’s story is from the heart and it is a wonderful thing he has done, helping turn the trucking industry into a community by helping to raise £23,000 and arranging a convoy of HGVs for Paul Stanyard’s funeral. Russell also does plenty of other charity work for very good causes and is always there for anyone who might need a helping hand, as well as being on the cast of the TV show Shipping Wars.
Thank you so much to all who entered or nominated others for this year’s ‘Trucker of the Year.’
