The size, colours and lights of a truck can be enough to make you stop and stare but what happens when you totally pimp your truck out? As providers of HGV insurance we’re intrigued to see what trucks are out there.

These are some of the world’s most unique trucks. From America where the trucks are larger than life to Japan where they’re painted so brightly they can be seen for miles.

The Dekotora

Translated Dekotora means ‘Decorated Trucks’ and that’s exactly what they are. Taking inspiration from the movie series ‘Trucker’ in 1975 the trucks are now known as the Trucks of Japan.

It’s not just the exterior that’s decorated but the interior too with designer fabrics. The amazing thing about these trucks is that they are still fully operational.

Sauna Trucks

All the way from Russia are the sauna trucks; the perfect place to relax after a hard day’s work. Saunas are a regular feature in Russia along with vodka, helping people to stay warm in the snow. Jeremy Hart for Wired Magazine describes the truck as “… a very serious piece of physical conditioning…” Now mobile saunas can be hired from a range of companies – just Google it!

Colani’s Concept Truck

This unique truck was designed by Luigi Colani, known for creating innovative vehicles, this truck is no exception. The initial versions of the trucks reduced fuel consumption by as much as 25%. It’s not just the turbo-charged diesel engine that helps with this reduction either. The design plays a big part in the fuel consumption – creating a more aerodynamic shape allows for a smooth drive.

Big Rig Jig

OK, so this one isn’t useable! It’s more of a sculpture, although you could enter the bottom truck and climb to the top.

Created by artist, Mike Ross in 2007 the sculpture took 3 months to build. After creation the Big Rig Jig was stored in a secret hideaway in California. The sculpture used two decommissioned trucks to create the transformed piece which displayed humanity’s power to create its own world.

Pakistani Truck Art

This is another type of decorated truck this time from Pakistan. These trucks are a form of art and beauty with teams of people spending days painting them. Usually the trucks started out as run down vehicles ready for the scrapyard.

There are no rules when decorating your truck. People have been known to use them to display pride in their vehicle or to honour a celebrity. So what do you think, will you be decorating your truck?

Have you got an unusual truck or do you know of any? If so let us know on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
