The summer season is here again and all we want to do is lie on a white sandy beach, with a drink in hand soaking up the sun. Which is fine until the unexpected happens!

Don’t just waste your money on travel insurance make sure you get what you need for the money you spend.

Where are you travelling?

Travel Insurance Be Aware

I know what you’re thinking, there’s Europe, North America, and South America…

Well, you’d be right by geographical standards but when it comes to insurance your location can make a difference.

Egypt is a prime example. Some insurers class this as Europe and some do not. It’s the same with the generic term ‘worldwide’ – in some cases North America is not included within worldwide policies so double check your destination definitions.

Wherever you’re travelling take some time to ensure you select the right location for your insurance. Otherwise your insurance could be invalid.

Medical Conditions

It can be tempting not to declare medical conditions in an attempt to save money, but is it worth it?

If you choose not to tell your insurance company about any medical conditions it can lead to the insurer refusing payment in the event of a claim. Be honest to begin with and allow yourself peace of mind.

Action Holidays

Planning on taking part in water sports, horse riding or scuba diving?

You’ll have to check that your travel insurance policy covers you for these ‘hazardous activities’.

OK, you’re not always going to plan your excursions before you go but it’s worth double checking you’re covered in case anything happens.

Claim Limits

Before you head off on your travels make sure you check the policy’s limits on claims. Don’t wait until it’s too late to discover you don’t have the correct amount of cover.

Check your claim limits for:

  • Baggage cover
  • Single items
  • Lost or stolen cash
  • Cancelation cover

Be aware that not all insurers will include cover for electrical items as standard. If you need to protect your mobile phone or tablet separate cover may be required.

Cancellations

You will only be covered for the cancellation of your holiday if cover is taken out prior to the cancellation announcement.

It is a good idea to take out travel insurance when booking your holiday, this way you know you’re covered and you definitely won’t forget your insurance.

Under the Influence

We Brits have a reputation when on holiday – we’re known for enjoying ourselves a little too much!

Something we forget whilst on our travels is that most insurers do not cover injuries caused while under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs.

Exclusions to this will be highlighted by your insurer in your policy – so grab a cup of tea, put your feet up and read your policy carefully.

We hope you now know a little more about travel insurance. Get your travel insurance quote today.
