Off on your travels this year? As providers of travel insurance we thought it would be great for you to experience something new, be adventurous and travel off the beaten track. You’ll be amazed at what you will discover. And we have found some pretty unique places ourselves, here are a few of our favourites.

Sichuan, China

Null

Why go?

As one of the largest provinces in China, Sichuan is home to many attractions. Situated to the East is the iconic Leshan Giant Buddha. Carved into the mountainside and measuring approximately 233 feet the statue is a renowned scenic spot. The feature has amazing reviews on tripadvisor, is a world heritage site (UNESCO) and is a must see.

But the weather varies throughout the region so be prepared!

Hobbit Village, New Zealand

Why go?

Prepare for an unexpected journey! All of you ‘The Hobbit’ or ‘The Lord of the Rings’ fans will fall in love with this picturesque village in Matamata, New Zealand. Created for the making of the films, you can enjoy refreshments in The Green Dragon Inn, the place where all Hobbiton residents gather before touring the set. And end your tour with an overnight stay in truly unique accommodation.

Hunyard Castle, Romania

Why go?

Perhaps best to visit on Halloween; Dracula’s Castle! This is a mysterious place, built, well no one knows when. This is perfect for a spooky getaway. The interiors are as you’d expect grand yet gothic and display the romantic and mysterious story of Dracula.

Although it’s not all doom and gloom the castle is more like a royal palace that receives many visitors every year. And it’s not just Stoker’s story that attracts people to the castle but also its incredible history. So don’t be afraid, experience it for yourself…

Ice Hotel, Sweden

Why go?

Try something different, stay in the original ice hotel in Swedish Lapland. The hotel offers something for everyone and is a truly incredible building. You can even experience the northern lights here and learn how to create your very own ice sculptures, although you can’t take them home!

This is a true winter wonderland, and you can still visit in the summer. So if you never want Christmas to melt away this is the place for you. Just don’t catch a chill!
