Generally, after a rear-end collision, symptoms are not generally felt until some days after the incident. Whiplash sufferers most often feel aches and pains in the neck, back and shoulders but officially, whiplash disorders are split into four grades:

1: Pain and stiffness but no physical evidence
2: Pain and stiffness with evidence of tenderness and decreased range of motion in the neck
3: Pain and stiffness plus evidence of reduced reflexes and weakness
4: Pain and stiffness with evidence of serious injury to the spine

Commonly, a GP will prescribe an anti-inflammatory drug together with painkillers. Additionally, manipulation of the neck area may be required together with a range of motion exercises designed to make recovery quicker.
