All you need to know about Courier insurance
Is Courier Insurance right for me?
Simple Van Insurance provides vehicle cover when carriage of own goods is required. When starting a Courier business often they are misinformed that a typical ‘hire and reward’ contract will be required - and a haulage policy is sought. Courier Insurance is required if you are a courier delivery service or if you carry goods for hire and reward on a multi-drop basis. It is imperative that the correct policy is requested and issued as failure to have the correct type of policy will lead to your claim being revoked.
Why Staveley Head Ltd t/a The Courier Broker?
We have been very active in the Courier Insurance arena for over 10 years. We have not only moved with the times but have been responsible for adding many benefits to policies. For example all our policyholders have Free Legal Expenses Insurance, Free 24 Hours Claims Management Service, and many schemes offered provide a free replacement vehicle for the duration of accident repairs to your vehicle. All this has been introduced to ensure that you are on the road with less interruption to your business.
We can offer ‘Quote and Buy’ online for all our Courier products. We also have specialist and highly trained staff based in the UK who can help with any query to ultimately offer you a great deal on your courier insurance.
Do I have the right vehicle?
The vast majority of vehicles driven for courier use are vans up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight. Small vans such as Renault Clio, Citroen Berlingo up to LWB Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinters. ‘The Courier Broker’ also provides cover for vehicles of 7.5 tonne Gross Vehicle Weight such as Ford Cargo’s and even beyond up to 44 tonne Gross Vehicle Weight. If you require cover for a vehicle over 7.5T GVW please visit our sister site ‘The HGV Broker’. It is getting more common that private cars are being used for courier purposes and we have excellent rates for these too.
My Courier Insurance cover
You require a policy that allows carriage of goods for hire and reward. If many drops a day are made then Haulage Insurance is not right for you and you will require a Courier Insurance policy. Courier Insurance follows the traditional types of cover of Comprehensive, Third Party Fire and Theft and Third Party Only. All insurance policies will carry an excess – the first part of any insurance claim which you are responsible for. Typically the excess is £500 however under many circumstances we can reduce this excess to £250 and even lower at times.
Windscreen cover is usually not available on Courier Insurance Policies however the majority of our Comprehensive products WE offer so include windscreen cover with typically either a £60 or £100 excess.
Cover can be arranged for all types of policyholders to include sole proprietors, courier business partnerships, courier companies where incorporated, charities and other organisations.
Who Can Drive on my Courier Insurance Policy?
Just like all types of motor insurance any request can be made. Insured Only, specifying named driver or even Any Driver Over 25 years of age. The norm is that all drivers are over the age of 25 however we are able to quote for young drivers if required. Typically a Full UK driving licence is required for minimum of 2 years however we are able to quote for drivers with EU licence, International licences and can also on occasion cover drivers who have held a licence for less than 2 years.
I’ve been a courier for many years but still want to a reduce my courier insurance premium
We have been active in the courier insurance arena for over 10 years. I want to expand my business and get more vehicles
We are a specialist insurance broker and as such have many products from individual vehicles up to large fleets of vehicles. Our unique courier insurance schemes are designed for policyholders with up to 8 vehicles. If you have more then a Courier Fleet Policy should be sought. What else will I need?
It would be prudent to have Goods In Transit Insurance. We hold exclusive schemes with large insurers and are able to offer GIT Insurance for all level of cover to include All Risks Specified sums so CMR and RHA conditions of carriage.
Public Liability Insurance and Employers Liability Insurance is also worthy of consideration. Another product to consider would be Motor Breakdown cover as it is imperative that your vehicle remains on the road at all times.
‘The Courier Broker’ offers these products at a very small cost when added to any Courier Insurance Policy.
We can also offer protected No Claims Discount to all of your courier insurance policies for a small additional premium. With the larger cost of courier type policies this is worthy of consideration.
