According to the press the Government has now taken the decision to outlaw clamping on private land, it is reported to come in to effect from November.

Whilst the decision is a massive victory for motorists and those campaigning against clampers, it is a setback for many clamping firms. There are numerous legitimate clamping firms however ministers appear to have taken the view that the “clamping industry” cannot be trusted, therefore imposing the new ruling.

As a leading van insurance broker Staveley Head, have read numerous stories of members of the general public fighting back against clampers including white van man Michael Lea, who camped out in his van for two nights to prevent it being towed away.

More recently Haroon Zafaryab staged a protest in Wembley last week after he returned to his car to find it clamped and a fine for £365. Mr Zafaryab had been to Ramadan prayers, proceeded to sit in his car whilst all four wheels were clamped and approximately 40 tickets were stuck to his vehicle amounting to £3,565. The 27 year old who was happy to pay the initial £100 fine said:

"They tried charging me £365 for the initial clamp. I questioned why and they said because I've been here more than two hours and in my heart of hearts I knew it was wrong.

"They were using scaremongering tactics and kept on plastering the stickers.

"I even sought legal advice. They (lawyers) said 'what does it say on the board' and I read it out and they said 'these stickers they mean nothing. They are just trying to scare you so just be patient.'"

After an impressive 30 hour stand-off Mr Zafaryab, had his vehicle released on Thursday evening after paying £100.
