Cheshire police are hunting a masked gang of thieves after a robbery took place at Greenalls Distillery in Warrington.

The raid is thought to of taken place in the early hours of Saturday morning between the hours of 1am and 4am. The gang who were masked and armed with knives attacked a security guard, before making off with five lorry loads of vodka. The security guard was taken to hospital however, was luckily not seriously injured, just badly shaken up.

The stolen goods are believed to of been 1.5 and 1 litre bottles of own-label vodka destined for Co-Operative supermarket, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Tesco. Royal Czar, Imperial and Moskova Vodka brands were also stolen.

As a leading HGV insurance broker Staveley Head, believe this kind of robbery must have been months in the planning to of been executed so smoothly. The gang must have also had knowledge of HGV’s as these vehicles are not the kind vehicle you can just jump behind the wheel of and drive.

Police are appealing for information on anyone acting suspiciously in the weeks prior to the raid and also to anyone who has been offered substantial amounts of alcohol or been asked to distribute large amounts of vodka.
