Sixteen stowaways have been found in a lorry containing a £1 million racing car. The eight Afghans, four Iraqis and four Vietnamese nationals were found hidden on a cramped shelf above the 200mph Aston Martin race car by UK border agencies officers.
Officers at Calais were alerted to the stowaways after noticing one of the side doors appeared to have been tampered with. On further investigation the UK border agencies officers discovered the £1 million Aston Martin race car had company, and handed the illegal immigrants over to French authorities.
Staveley Head are a leading HGV insurance broker and see this as yet another success story, just days after five illegal immigrants were detained after trying to enter the UK on trucks operated by Bernie Ecclestone’s Formula One Management company.
The head of the UK border force Brodie Clark said:
“The UK Border Agency has officers working 24 hours a day in Calais using the latest technology as well as specially trained dogs to identify and prevent illegal immigrants from reaching the UK.”
The discovery was made on the 24th May in the early hours of the morning.
