The working World Cup

08 June 10

With World Cup fever just about to sweep the nation, Staveley Head, a leading commercial insurance broker, was interested to read an article on the effects football has on the office.

With a large number of football fans working in an office environment with web access the temptation to look to the internet for World Cup updates may appear too hard to resist. Chris Stening of Easynet Connect said:

“As well as using live and catch up services, many workers may also connect mobile devices to corporate wi-fi networks in order to follow the football.”

The impact of many a football fan keeping up with what’s going on could lead to a strain on company’s networks. Corporate bandwidth limits could be met or exceeded, slowing down internet access across the business.

With games kicking off at 1.30pm, 4pm and 8pm every day from the 11th June until the group stages end on the 21st June that is a lot of football to follow by a footy mad fan!

Mr Stening has recommended adopting a flexible approach to productivity management with the suggestion of treating the office to a TV or radio.

Whilst Staveley Head will not be providing your office with a widescreen TV or a few beers to watch the game with, they can offer you competitive commercial insurance.
