A Skoda commissioned survey, conducted by YouGov, has found 60 per cent of motorists actually prefer to drive alone than have the company of friends, family or even a celebrity riding shotgun.
It appears the car has become a sanctuary to get away from the stresses and strains of daily life, with one in ten people saying it provided them with time to think. A further 12% of motorists found their journey uplifted by beautiful scenery.
With many couriers spending ample time behind the wheel it appears a good selection of music is a must with 40% of people rating listening to music or the radio whilst alone in their vehicle the top source of happiness. Leading courier insurance broker Staveley Head found the survey most interesting especially when it came to the public’s top choice of passenger.
With back seat drivers claiming 28 per cent of the votes, who would motorists choose to share their car with if they have to?
Comedian Stephen Fry and pop sensation Cheryl Cole topped the choice of famous faces, followed closely by Kylie Minogue and George Clooney. It is not surprising to hear that only one per cent of drivers would rate their boss as their favourite passenger.
Gladeana McMahon, one of the UK’s leading psychologists, commented:
“The findings from Skoda’s survey illustrate how important alone time is. Driving on your own gives you time to think, whether mulling over issues or remembering good times."
