Staveley Head one of the UK’s leading coach insurance brokers is relieved to hear that fifty people escaped unhurt after a Volvo coach they were travelling in burst into flames near Thirsk.
The Volvo coach which was heading Northbound near Thirsk carrying 50 people including the driver is thought to have gone up in flames on Saturday afternoon, due to a faulty air pipe. It is suspected the faulty air pipe caused the brakes to overheat which then sparked a fire underneath the rear axle resulting in the coach catching fire.
The incident saw two fire crews race to the scene, one from Northallerton and the other from Thirsk. Arriving at the scene the firefighters found all passengers and the driver had amazingly escaped without injury. The blaze was extinguished within 20 minutes however the coach was almost completely destroyed.
