Men crash....Women bump!

24 June 10

The ongoing battle of who the better driver is of the two sexes appears never-ending,or is it?

A study by a women's insurance company has discovered male motorists are more likely to collide head-on in a collision, whereas female motorists are more likely to have minor bumps and scrapes.

The research by Diamond revealed that out of more than two million accidents female motorists are more likely to put in a claim for hitting cars from behind and collisions on a roundabout. The results also found that men are more likely to have head-on collisions, hit barriers, drive up and down embankments and crash into trees than their female counterparts.

Diamonds managing director said:

“Women tend to be in more accidents at slower speeds where cars are close together, while men have more high-speed accidents where it is easy to lose control. Our research suggests the way men and women drive is different. Possibly men drive faster and more aggressively than women, while women are more easily distracted than men behind the wheel of a car.”

The study looking over five years of incidents also revealed women suffer from more car related thefts than men, with thieves breaking into women's cars and taking things. Men however, are more likely to have their cars stolen outright. This may be due to women being more likely to leave items on show such as handbags and expensive sunglasses.
