From a report by Kia Motors it appears motorists are eating up to a fifth of their daily calories intake whilst behind the wheel.
The report that analysed British driving habits found 10 per cent of motorists admitting to driving with their hand in a crisp packet with a further 10 percent eating a sandwich whilst driving. One in six drivers also confessed to drinking their morning cup of coffee or tea in the car so they could extend their lye in.
Communication director at Kia Motors, Steve Kitson said:
“The law takes a very dim view on any activity that compromises a driver's focus on the road. Trying to concentrate on the road ahead and stay vigilant of other motorists while eating and drinking inevitably compromises a driver's reaction time and focus.”
Staveley Head a leading van insurance broker agrees with Mr Kitson and would suggest motorists make time before leaving home or to take a break during your journey to eat and drink as juggling a sandwich and a steering wheel is not only dangerous, it could lead to police prosecution.
With the aptly named ‘spare tyre ‘report revealing that the most popular snacks are fizzy drinks and chocolate the combined intake could be approximately 410 calories. Therefore, this combined indulgence would see motorists needing to spend an hour on an exercise bike to shake off the calories or burn those calories Wimbledon style by getting out on the tennis court for 30 minutes.
