Reported in the press this week is the disappointing news that the world’s biggest car manufacturer Toyota is recalling vehicles sold globally due to faulty engines.
Close to 270,000 Toyota vehicles could have faulty engines which could cause the vehicle to stall whilst in motion. A spokesman for Lexus in the UK has said the cause of the fault is “improperly functioning valve springs” which have been found in some Lexus engines.
According to the press the recall is set to begin in Japan on Monday where approximately 90,000 of the affected cars are based.
Leading motor trade insurance broker Staveley Head feel this must be another massive blow to the car maker giant after they were forced to recall 8.5 million vehicles in September.
With around 3,200 of the models based in Britain a Toyota spokeswoman said the company had not yet decided whether to recall vehicles in the UK .The models involved include the luxury Lexus sedans along with the popular Crown models Hideto Yukawa, spokesman for the Japanese company, has said of the discovery:
"The defective engines, whose valve springs are not working properly, may halt in the worst case scenario while driving.
"The company is preparing for taking market measures as soon as possible."
The company has also confirmed that there have been no reports of accidents linked to the faulty engines and Lexus will do whatever they can to ensure customers inconvenience is minimised.
