As a leading HGV insurance broker Staveley Head has noticed a number of stories in the press relating to lorry’s shedding their loads and causing chaos.
Motorists who were unfortunate enough to be travelling along the A643 route West Yorkshire found themselves well and truly ‘stuck’ in traffic after a lorry shed its load of PVA glue! The route was closed just after 9-30am on Tuesday 1st July 2010 for most of the day whilst the big clean up took place.
Reported a little further afield was the news that motorists in southern Italy saw chaos hit their roads after some two million euro’s (£1.66m) ending up being shed on one of the motorways.
The security lorry which had been distributing money from the Italian mint to banks from Cesena to Bari spilled its precious cargo on Tuesday leading motorists to hit the brakes and dig in.
Passing motorists must have thought they’d hit the jackpot when the security lorry’s rear door burst open spilling the precious load onto the motorway. Police closed the motorway, but not before drivers stopped and managed to make off with what the police believe is at least 50,000 Euros in one and two-euro coins.
The only casualties were the lorry driver and passenger who luckily only suffered minor injuries.
