Safer riding for Dorset bikers

12 July 10

An educational initiative by Dorset County Council and Police will take place in Dorset in a bid to make motorbike riding safer.

BikeSafe Dorset will take place on 12th July and will include a practical ride assessment by police motorcycling professionals as well as a session of class-room based tuition. The first session will take place on Monday at Dorchester Town Football Club Weymouth Avenue, anyone wanting to take part can turn up at 6-45pm for a 7pm start.

As a leading motorbike insurance broker Staveley Head, think events like this are a great opportunity for riders to improve on their riding skills and hopefully prevent them being another statistic.

The theory session is free to attend with the practical ride assessment offered at a subsidised rate of £40. Both parts of the course must be completed in order to complete the BikeSafe course and receive a certificate.

BikeSafe Dorset Co-ordinator Police Constable Chris Smith said:

“It’s never the wrong time to learn a new skill and keep yourself safe on the county’s roads.

“Our local evening theory sessions cost nothing and are open to all motorcyclists. They are held locally across Dorset and riders can just turn up to see what BikeSafe is all about.

“There is then an option to attend one of our on road assessment dates which are held near to our headquarters in Winfrith. It takes just a few hours and could teach you something that might save your life one day.”
