Police trapped in security van

13 July 10

Reported in the press this week is the news that security vans really do appear to be very secure after a security van driver and two police officers got trapped inside!

The drama which was described by a woman who did not wish to be named as “some sort of secret filming comedy programme, like Trigger Happy TV” unfolded on Twydall Green in Kent last week.

A panic alarm on the security van went off broadcasting the message “This van is under attack. Call the police” Shoppers called 999 however, two police officers first on the scene were left perplexed as to how to rescue the van’s driver inside.

It was suggested one of the officers climb through a hatch on the roof in an attempt to rescue the driver, this proved unsuccessful as the officer failed to emerge and it became apparent he too was trapped inside.

The second police officer is reported to of made it into the front of the vehicle however, seconds later she too became stuck inside as the doors locked behind her.

The van driver and officers were eventually released after the police officers colleagues turned up and contacted the security company to get a code to reset the troublesome alarm.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: "Patrols attended the scene and established the driver of the van was trapped inside, as a result of what was believed to be an electrical failure.

“Officers attempted to release the man but were unable to free him. The security company were able to reset the electronics and the alarm, and the driver was able to get out of the van.”
