Bus driver student on the road to a different career

A student from the University Of Portsmouth Business School, graduates this week and hangs up her bus keys to start work as a trainee accountant.
Four years ago Louisa Burton spotted an advert reading ‘Are you 18? Can you drive? Thinking yes to both of those questions the accounting and business student spent her summer holidays completing bus driver training.
At the age of 18 Louisa became the youngest bus driver in Scotland and spent her summer driving her own bus. Deciding it would be silly not to continue earning some money, Louisa moved to Portsmouth two weeks before she was due to start at the University Of Portsmouth Business School to learn the bus routes there.
Louisa’s shifts included three 3.00pm until midnight shifts along with two ‘Guildhall shifts’ picking up her fellow students from pubs and clubs between midnight and 4.00am.
She said:
“The Guildhall shift was always good fun - as you can imagine everyone was usually in quite high spirits but I had two bouncers on the bus and never had any trouble.”
As a leading bus insurance broker Staveley Head, think it must have been difficult for Louisa at times, picking up her friends from pubs and clubs rather than being there with them. However, this has to be a fun and unique way for a student to earn some extra cash whilst studying.
Louisa, who graduates today has just started work as a trainee accountant and will be hanging up her bus keys for the time being.
