A survey by Auto Trader has revealed motorists still have a place in their hearts for the first car they ever owned.
The poll of 2,370 people found that a sentimental 20 per cent of people would buy a new car if it reminded them of the first car they owned. One in five people would even go as far as buying back the first car they ever owned.
As a leading car insurance broker Staveley Head, agrees that you never forget your first car and everyone has fun filled memories of their first set of wheels.
From the scrappage scheme last year to many swappage schemes this year, it appears that even those that take advantage of such schemes admit to being ‘genuinely devastated’ at giving up their old cars.
When it comes to replacing a car 10 per cent of those taking part in the survey would not consider buying a car that is two to five years old. Once again the nostalgic drivers amongst us would consider an older car with 64 per cent of people saying they would consider an older car as long as it was a working, road worthy copy of the model they used to drive.
Auto Trader Marketing Director Matt Thompson said:
“First car nostalgia rings true with us all. Whether it’s leaving the hand brake off the first time you parked on a hill or fun-filled road trips with friends, the first car carries with it many memories.”
