Wales set to benefit from tourism

With the summer holidays in full swing it appears Wales is well placed to take advantage of a predicted tourism boom over the next decade, after a report by Visit Britain was commissioned.

The report shows that over the next ten years, tourism in the UK is set to rise by more than 60% to £188 billion. Also set to rise is the number of jobs supported by tourism rising from 2.63 million to 2.89 million.

According to the Visit Britain report the above average growth could also be contributed to by the lure of the 2012 Olympics, the appeal of UK attractions and favourable exchange rates.

As a leading caravan insurance broker based in North Wales, Staveley Head have seen a flurry of caravan quotes over the past months. With the volcanic ash situation and airline strikes along with some fantastic weather Wales has had lately, it’s no wonder people are choosing to holiday in the UK.

Huw Pendleton, Chairman of Pembrokeshire Tourism said:

“Caravan parks are being visited by people who wouldn’t have visited in the past and they’re quite surprised by what they find as the standard of caravans has been improving over the years.

“The people who are visiting now might not have visited since they were children.”

Another recently published report compiled by Cardiff Business School for Visit Wales was the Tourism Satellite Account for Wales. The report found that tourists spent an estimated £4.2bn in Wales in 2007, directly supporting 78,000 full time equivalent jobs.
