Thousands and thousands of items are sent through the post every day, so it’s no surprise that some strange parcels get sent amongst the madness.

There are all kinds of weird things people need to send and receive – as well as some they’d really rather not!

But it’s the couriers who transport the items that we really feel for… they don’t know what it is they’re delivering which is just one of the reasons we offer courier insurance.

Here are just some of the bizarre items people have tried to send through the mail.

The Time Machine

A man from Birmingham got fed up with his time machine taking up too much space so decided to send it to a mate. This took a specialist service to handle the fragile ‘flux-capacitor’ and other elements.

We wonder if it was a DeLorean. Although if it can’t make it through the UK, we’re not sure how well it will do travelling through time.

Unwanted Mail

Post box

Ever received an unwanted leaflet? Then send it back. As long as it is a Freepost address The Royal Mail enables you to post anything, which means the recipient must pick up the bill.

But the British public don’t stop at returning leaflets– they use the Freepost address to get rid of unwanted items, including: bricks, household junk, defaced flyers, and letters.

Celebrity Mail

Some of the craziest things sent through the mail are sent to celebrities by their adoring fans. Perhaps one of the strangest items was sent to Taylor Swift, when she received a beautiful portrait of herself – the only thing was it was painted on a turtle shell.

It was The Jonas Brothers that received the weirdest gift of all though: a dead baby shark. Because that’s on everyone’s Christmas list!

We’re sure all you couriers – and gift recipients – out there have come across some strange items yourself. We’d love to hear about the weird and wonderful items you’ve delivered or received, so join the conversation on Facebook and Twitter.
