Preparing and selling your motorhome for the best price can be a tricky task. With so many things to consider from the best time to sell to where you can advertise it.

1. When is the best time of year to sell?

Spring time is when the British weather tends to improve. People begin to spend more time outdoors and look to visit places to explore. As the tourist season is not in full swing, this presents a good opportunity to promote the sale of your motorhome in time for a potential buyer to use the vehicle in summer.

2. Why spring cleaning your motorhome can pay off

First impressions count and usually, you only get one chance to do this. So, by giving your motorhome a spring clean this’ll provide a fresh smell when a person enters the vehicle and create a positive impression that your motorhome has been well looked after.

Here’s a checklist of all the areas internally you’ll need to clean:

  • Windows
  • Furniture
  • Floors
  • All surfaces
  • Bedding
  • Cutlery
  • Water tank

Check out the following link for tips on how to clean your motorhome externally.

3. What vehicle maintenance you’ll have to carry out

Carry out an inspection of your motorhome’s bodywork, window seals, tyre condition and under the bonnet. If new parts need to be fitted or repair work needs to be carried out professionally, make sure you get multiple quotes to ensure that you’re getting a competitive price. Don’t forget to top up any fluids to the correct level too.

4. How to find out your motorhomes current value

There are many free online valuations that can be obtained to help give you a broader idea of the value of your motorhome. If you decide to try this, you could try and get as many quotes as you can to give you a full picture of the range of valuations from the highest to the lowest. You don’t have to agree with these valuations but it’s useful to know.

5. Where to advertise your motorhome?

The broader your advertising efforts the better. Make sure the description of your motorhome’s condition is accurate and take photos internally and externally to add to your advert. Detail the paperwork that you have i.e. service history. State your asking price and whether you’re prepared to listen to offers.

You could try advertising through:

  • eBay
  • Motorhome forums
  • Local newspapers
  • Social media platforms i.e. Facebook and Twitter
  • Placing an advert in the window of your motorhome
  • Word of mouth through family, friends and colleagues
  • Sales sites such as Autotrader

When you do achieve that all-important sale, don’t forget to let the DVLA and your current insurance provider know that you’ve sold your vehicle. Alternatively, if you’re going to be buying a replacement vehicle, then we can offer you a motorhome insurance quote online.
