How to make an insurance claim after an accident driving your motorhome

Give us a call

As personal vehicle insurance specialists, we understand that accidents can happen at any time, that’s why it is so important to be prepared and have a good understanding of what to do if you have been involved in an incident in your motorhome.

By taking the right steps you’ll be able to avoid making a bad situation worse and make sure that your insurance claim goes smoothly.

COLLECTING DETAILS AFTER AN ACCIDENT

Understandably being involved in an accident is not a pleasant experience, but it’s important that you stay as calm as possible and gather as much information as you can about the other party/parties. This includes:

  • full names
  • contact telephone numbers, address and age of the driver and any passengers
  • insurance details (including the policy number)
  • car make, model and registration

You should also make note of:

  • location
  • time and date
  • how the accident occurred
  • damage to vehicles and any injuries
  • weather conditions
  • traffic conditions
  • road markings, signs and signals
  • witness details

If possible take photos immediately after the incident to help you remember details and to use as evidence should you need it.

If you feel you have been a victim of foul play (crash for cash) or if the other driver is uninsured or drives off you should inform the police and your insurer.

HOW TO MAKE A CLAIM WITH STAVELEY HEAD

It’s important that all incidents are reported to us immediately or at the earliest possible time. Remember, this should be within 48 hours of the incident to avoid your excess increasing by £500 and to help us act quickly and control the cost of claims as efficiently as possible. Make sure you are in a safe place, away from the road and oncoming traffic when you call as your safety comes first.

When calling the claims helpline, please have your policy number to hand if you can, this number is written on your policy schedule. If you can’t find your policy number don’t let this delay you reporting the incident.

If you have an accident or need to make a claim, we’re here to help you. Just call our 24 hour claims helpline for assistance on +44 (0)333 370 9999.
